Scentience App Privacy Policy

Thank you for choosing Scentience. This Privacy Policy explains how the Scentience App (“the App”) collects, uses, and protects your data. By using the App, you agree to the practices described in this Policy. If you do not agree, please do not use the App.

The Scentience App is designed to work in tandem with Scentience devices. The App pairs to a Scentience device via Bluetooth and processes olfaction data locally through a built-in Scent Vision Language Model. No internet connection is required to use the App. No data is stored outside of your device or transmitted to external databases or servers. Any data that is processed remains local to your device and the Scentience device.

• What We Collect: The App receives olfaction data from your Scentience device via Bluetooth.
• Why We Collect It: The App’s Scent Vision Language Model uses this data to identify and interpret scents, compounds, and air quality in your environment.
• How It’s Used: The data is processed locally on your device and not transmitted elsewhere.

• What We Collect: Your precise location data is used to gather local outdoor air quality information.
• Why We Collect It: To determine how local air quality might affect the compounds detected by the Scentience device.
• Consent & Requirements: Location access is mandatory to use the App’s core functionalities. If you do not grant location permissions, you will not be able to use the App.

• What We Collect: The camera is used to visually identify possible sources of chemicals or compounds in your environment as the Scent Vision Language Model receives olfaction data.
• Why We Collect It: To enrich the real-time analysis of the environment by correlating visual data with olfaction data.
• Consent & Requirements: Camera access is mandatory to use the App. No images or video are recorded or saved.

• What We Collect: If granted permission, the App will use the microphone to listen to voice commands and gather contextual sounds that might help the Scent Vision Language Model identify sources of scents or compounds.
• Why We Collect It: To offer hands-free interaction and better contextual understanding of the environment.
• Consent & Requirements: Microphone permission is optional. If you do not grant microphone access, you can still use the App, but voice command features will be unavailable. No audio recordings are stored.

• What We Collect: The App uses Bluetooth only to pair with your Scentience device and to perform firmware updates for the device.
• Why We Collect It: Bluetooth connectivity is essential for the App to function, as it enables data transfer between the Scentience device and your mobile device.
• Consent & Requirements: Enabling Bluetooth is mandatory to use the App.

1. Real-Time Analysis: The Scent Vision Language Model processes olfaction data, camera input, and (optionally) microphone input to deliver real-time, on-device analysis of your environment.
2. Improving App Functionality: The collected data is used solely to power the App’s features and improve user experience (e.g., identifying scent sources, contextualizing location-based data).
3. No External Storage: No data is sent to external servers or stored in cloud databases. Everything is processed locally on your mobile device and your Scentience device.

1. No Third-Party Access: We do not share your data with any third parties.
2. No External Data Transmission: The App does not transmit user data to external servers or third-party services, as no internet connection is required or used by the App.
3. No Commercialization of Your Data: We do not sell, trade, or otherwise monetize any user data. There is no mechanism for Scentience to access, store, or analyze your data outside of the device itself.

1. On-Device Processing Only: All generative large language model functions occur on your device, without sending data to a remote server.
2. No Disclosure of Generated Output: The generated output from the Olfaction Vision Language Model remains on your device. Scentience does not collect or disclose any output from the model.
3. No Saving or Recording: None of the inputs (camera, microphone, or olfaction data) are stored or recorded on external systems.

1. Local Processing: Because all data is processed and stored locally, there is minimal risk of unauthorized access through online data breaches.
2. Firmware Updates via Bluetooth: Firmware updates for the Scentience device are conducted over an encrypted Bluetooth connection.
3. Device and OS Safeguards: We encourage you to protect your mobile device with strong passwords, biometric locks, or other security measures to prevent unauthorized use of the App.

1. Location Permissions: Must be enabled to use the App’s functions (mandatory).
2. Camera Access: Must be enabled to use the App’s core features (mandatory).
3. Microphone Access: You can opt in or out; if you do not grant permission, you will lose voice-command functionality but can still use the App.
4. Bluetooth: Must be enabled to pair with and receive data from the Scentience device (mandatory).

The Scentience App is not directed toward children under the age of 13. If you are a parent or guardian and believe that your child has used the App without your consent, please contact us immediately so we can take appropriate measures.

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes in our practices or regulatory requirements. When we do so, we will revise the “Last Updated” date at the top of this Policy. Continued use of the App after any changes indicates your acceptance of those changes.
